Healing Menopause the Herbal Way

Suzie Springer

Would it not be great to calm the storms of menopause with a natural, safe solution? Would it also be great if these safe herbs could be found in your everyday drug or health store instead of having to get a prescription from the doctor? The good news is that certain herbs can extinguish hot flashes and the other symptoms menopause brings. Herbs may take a little bit longer time to start working in full swing compared to other hormone replacement therapy drugs, but they are safe, natural, and effective.

The first herb that is essential to adding to your diet is soybeans. During menopause, your body is has very low levels of estrogen and progesterone which causes a hormonal imbalance. Soybeans have large amounts of phytoestrogens, basically the estrogens of a plant. Phytoestrogens are easily absorbed by the human body and help replace the missing estrogen and progesterone. Try replacing half of your meat and dairy with soy substitutes. You may even find the soy products better than the real products.

The next herb is called black cohosh. Black cohosh is a natural estrogen also. It is very effective when it comes to hot flashes. Black cohosh should not be taken for then six months at a time. Black cohosh was also used by the Native Americans for sore throats and kidney problems.

The herb ginseng literally means "man root" in Chinese. However, it is really beneficial to menopausal women. This herb works as a relaxant and anti-depressant, and does wonders on menopausal anxiety and depression.

St. John's wort is also a great herb to take. It naturally fights depression and can be used for a long period of time. The only worries that come with this herb is the fact that it can make some women's skin extra sensitive to the sun. Also, it is important to avoid taking prescribed anti-depressant medication while taking this herb because they can interfere with each other.

The last herb recommended is chasteberry. Chasteberries have high levels of dopamine in them. Dopamine balances out hormones and calm anxiety.

There are several herbs that can aid in making menopause easier. These few listed will bring much relief to your symptoms. You might have to do a little experimenting before you get the right herbs for you. Once you find the right herbs for you, you will be so happy you choose them over any dangerous medication.
